CYCLONE “Extreme” Housings
Whenever presenting the ZennaTek™ environmental housings we are commonly made aware of the profound need for a housing that can protect camera systems from the extremes of pyrotechnic heat, deep submersion and impact. So, after extensive R&D, we’ve created two different housings to meet all those demanding needs: The CYCLONE - perfect for the Silicon Imaging SI-2K Mini system - and the larger CYCLONE 3D/HS for imaging with dual SI-2K ultra-HD cameras or the Photron SA-3 cameras - for high speed 3D - plus numerous individual Video, HD and High Speed cameras.
INDEPENDENT PRODUCT ANALYSIS:
Critical to achieving our design goals - and then being able to certify so to insurance entities - was employing New York-based 360˚PRODUCT TESTING.

CYCLONE Protection Levels:
PYROTECHNIC HEAT
1,500˚F (815˚C) up to 6 minutes
CRUSHING FORCE
7,500 lbs. (3,400kg)
SUBMERSION
(Shallow Version)
175’ (53m)
IMPACT FORCE
Commonly 5G’s
depending upon camera and use of ZennaTek’s
FLIP-FRAME system - shown at right.
BEFORE
HEAT TOLERANCE
Casings are treated with a space age metallic-ceramic coating to dramatically expand the heat tolerance to 2,000˚F (1,093˚C)
IMPACT SYSTEMS
The biggest challenge is providing impact protection from a wide variety of often simultaneous forces. The key to our approach is to limit the “hard mount” connections to the camera. This is achieved with our internal Flex-Frame that is then spring-loaded within the Cyclone housing which is then clamped within our patent-pending Flip-Frame system. This spring-steel framework absorbs strong top and side impact/crushing forces. The Cyclone housing itself is free to respond as well by twisting - against speed-reducing spring tension - plus flipping in an arc to convert brake forces to centrifugal force which pulls the internal camera/lens towards the spring behind the camera.
CONNECTIVITY
Both Cyclone housings use the same, easily adaptable BackPlate so that a wide variety of connections can be made as per whatever your camera/system.
AFTER
CAMERA SYSTEMS PROTECTED:
CYCLONE Internal Dimensions:
5.25”(13.3cm) diameter
12” (30.5cm) depth
CYCLONE 3D/HS Internal Dimensions:
10.75”(27.3cm) diameter
13.4” (34cm) depth
Draw a circle of either of the above diameters and insert your camera system within that for an initial impression as to whether it would fit. When calculating for necessary depth remember to include the length of any attached camera connectors.
The front port frame, of either housing, also allows - at a minimum - for an additional 2” (5cm) of length for the lens. (That length increases with the use of the dome front port.)
NOTE: ZennaTek will maintain an on-going program to certify various camera systems for use within Cyclone housings. When that expanded data is available we will be providing it, along with direct URL links.
